Location: Methodist Physicians Clinic - Colon & Rectal Surgery

Work Schedule: This is a casual position. Casual employees work on an ‘as needed’ basis to meet the needs of the business.  Work days/hours will often vary from week to week Monday through Friday, hours between 8am - 5pm.

Pre-cleaning and high level disinfection of GI scopes and other GI related equipment to ensure safe use on patients.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Scope Cleaning (Pre-Cleaning and High Level Disinfection): 50%

  • Pre-clean and disinfect GI scopes and other GI related equipment.

  • Quality checks on high level disinfection and random scopes.

  • Keep area stocked with appropriate supplies.

  • Label scopes with expiration dates properly. Reprocess scopes that are due for reprocessing if expired.

Scope Maintenance : 25%

  • Prepare damaged scopes to be sent in for repair.

  • Check in scopes that come back from repair.

  • Prepare scopes to send in for preventative maintance annually.

  • Daily checks on Medivator machines.

  • Label scopes for expiration dates properly. Reprocess scopes that are due for reprocessing if expired.

  • Package and send required equipment to sterile processing daily.

Solution Maintenance/Competencies: 15%

  • Change disinfection solution with associated filters in Medivator and stand-alone units per manufacturer's guidelines.

  • Check temperatures on stand-alone unit prior to each wash cycle. Manage as necessary.

  • Perform annual scope room competencies with RN staff to ensure proper handling and disinfecting of GI equipment.

Other Duties as Assigned: 10%

Job Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) preferred.

Experience:

  • Sterile processing experience preferred.

  • Experience in healthcare setting preferred.

License/Certification:

  • Completion of Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (GI Scope) Certification (CFER) required within 18 months of hire.

Skills/Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Skilled in pre-cleaning and high level disinfection of GI scopes and GI related equipment.

  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and customers.

  • Able to read, write, and comprehend various written reports and documents.
