Job Overview

The FinOps Engineer will serve as the primary owner of financial operations across multiple environments, driving cost transparency, accountability, and optimization in close partnership with Engineering, Finance, and IT Operations. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, financial acumen, and an automation mindset to ensure technical investments align with business objectives. As a highly visible position, the FinOps Engineer supports executive decision-making and enables sustainable cloud growth through disciplined financial management.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, implement and execute the organization’s FinOps strategy across multiple cloud, PaaS, and SaaS platforms, ensuring spend is optimized and aligned with business priorities.

  • Analyze cloud usage and billing data across environments to identify inefficiencies, cost anomalies, and savings opportunities

  • Implement rightsizing strategies, eliminate idle or underutilized resources, and recommend architectural cost improvements

  • Manage billing and cost reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and consistency across operating companies and business units

  • Develop and maintain forecasting and budgeting models to predict costs based on historical usage trends, growth plans, and architectural changes

  • Design, implement, and enforce cost allocation and chargeback models using standardized tagging, cost centers, and business unit mappings

  • Build and maintain financial dashboards and reports using cost management platforms and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI or equivalent)

  • Define, track, and report on FinOps KPIs, including cost trends, budget variance, savings realized, and optimization impact

  • Implement automation for cost monitoring, reporting, and alerting, including proactive alerts for unexpected spikes

  • Partner closely with Finance to support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and month-end reporting

  • Collaborate with Cloud Engineers and Architects to embed cost governance into infrastructure-as-code, deployment pipelines, and operational standards

  • Document FinOps standards, workflows, and best practices to support scalability and consistency across the organization

This role partners closely with Cloud Engineers, IT Operations, Finance and Accounting, Project Managers, and senior leadership to ensure financial discipline is embedded into technical and business decisions.

The FinOps Engineer will have the opportunity to influence tooling, standards, and long-term strategy with direct executive visibility.

What You Will Bring to the Table (Must Have)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

  • 8+ years of professional experience, including at least 4 years supporting cloud-based platforms or services

  • Strong understanding of cloud consumption models, billing structures, and cost drivers across cloud environments

  • Understanding of licensing models

  • Experience working with cloud cost management tools and billing data

  • Hands-on experience designing tagging strategies and cost allocation models

  • Proficiency with reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI or equivalent

  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform or similar)

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Proven ability to collaborate across engineering, finance, and operations teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • FinOps Certified Practitioner or similar certification
  • Cloud provider certifications
  • Proficiency with scripting or automation languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python)
  • Experience with IT financial management, budgeting, forecasting, or chargeback models
  • Experience with FinOps platforms or cost optimization tooling

The compensation band for this role starts at $115,000 per year plus a discretionary annual bonus.
