Position Summary - per diem

Responsible for daily operations of the ultrasound department, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment. Responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to expose various Ob/Gyn conditions, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patients while performing studies.
  • Integrates medical history, previous studies, and current symptoms in determining the appropriate diagnostic protocol and customizing the examination to the needs.
  • Uses professional judgment to adapt the protocol or consults appropriate healthcare providers, when necessary, to optimize examination or procedure images, findings, or results.
  • Performs ultrasound studies for a variety of conditions ranging from routine to high-risk obstetrical scans including (not limited to), nuchal translucency, first trimester detailed anatomy scans, fetal anatomy survey, limited fetal echocardiography, doppler studies including MCA and ductus venosus, biophysical profile and transvaginal exams.
  • Operates complex ultrasound equipment pertinent to department needs, m-mode, doppler, real time and all related recording systems.

  • Recognizes sonographic characteristics of images, findings or results; adapts protocol as appropriate to further assess.
  • Performs ultrasound examinations during surgical procedures.
  • Analyzes sonographic images, findings or results through the course of the examination or procedure so that optimal examination is completed.
  • Documents all findings, including insufficient or incomplete images to that sufficient information is provided in the sonographer’s report to the interpreting physician.

Education/Experience/Licensure

  • Education: Associate degree or certification in a diagnostic medical sonography program required.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience in OB sonography required. Two (2) to three (3) years of experience Maternal Fetal Medicine sonography preferred. Experience with Nuchal Translucency and limited fetal echocardiography preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: Registration in OB/GYN ultrasound from the ARDMS required. Must obtain BLS within sixty (60) days of hire required. Incumbent must remain current on required CME credit.
  • Proficiency in sonography reporting software.
