About the Job:
The Corporate Accountant – Fixed Assets manages the organization’s fixed assets by tracking capitalization, depreciation and disposals, maintaining accurate records, performing reconciliations and audits, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role will also manage lease-related accounting, including reviewing lease agreements, classifying leases, calculating and recording lease-related journal entries, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting literature. This role requires strong accounting knowledge, analytical skills, the ability to work with fixed assets systems, and collaborate with other departments. This position reports to the Company’s Assistant Controller.Roles and Responsibilities:
Asset Lifecycle Management – Oversee the entire fixed asset life cycle, including acquisitions, capitalization, disposals and transfers.
Lease Review and Data Management – Review and analyze lease agreements to determine lease terms and classify them correctly.
Record Maintenance – Maintain accurate and detailed fixed asset records, such as asset descriptions, locations, acquisitions costs and accumulated depreciation.
Depreciation and Amortization – Calculate and record depreciation expenses for all fixed assets according to US GAAP.
Reconciliations – Perform monthly fixed asset reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations.
Physical Audits – Coordinate and perform physical asset audits when appropriate.
Reporting – Prepare and analyze fixed asset reports, including depreciation schedules, asset listings and capital expenditure reports.
Compliance – Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and external regulatory requirements related to fixed assets.
System Management – Use and maintain fixed asset and lease accounting systems to process transactions and generate reports.
Interdepartmental Collaboration – Work with Operations, Development and IT departments to gather accurate asset information and support project costing.
Audit Support – Provide support for external audit and tax filings.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited college or university
3+ years of relevant work experience
CPA or CMA is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software; experience in fixed asset and lease accounting software is a plus
Ability to handle financial reporting in a complete, accurate and timely manner
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to measure asset obligations and identify issues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain technical accounting concepts and collaborate with teams
High degree of self-motivation, ownership, organization and attention to detail
Ability to work through issues independently and as part of a team
