This role involves extensive paid travel throughout the state of Arizona. A company vehicle will be provided for work-related transportation. For additional details, please refer to the Travel section of this job description.

JOB SUMMARY: This position supports APS’s Defensible Space Around Poles (DSAP) program, which clears vegetation around their power poles to prevent wildfires and damage to infrastructure. This position conducts quality control inspections of the work performed by vegetation management crews to ensure it meets the program specifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:

  • Communicate with property owners, vegetation management crews, and public agencies regarding pruning and removals

  • Manage and maintain vegetation data

  • Promote and enforce on-the-job safety practices

  • Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, Environmental Science, or related field, or equivalent experience in utility line clearance

  • Ability to obtain ISA Certification within 12 months of hire

  • Strong species identification and invasive species knowledge

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Ability to work independently in rugged terrain and inclement weather

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Proficient in map navigation and Microsoft Office; GIS experience a plus

TRAVEL: Extensive travel is a core aspect of this position. Consulting Utility Forester’s may be required to stay in hotels Monday through Thursday for consecutive weeks or months, depending on the location of circuits needing inspection. When assignments are closer to home, travel requirements may decrease significantly.
