Assists in developing policies, forms, and procedures to administer the Language Access Program.
Provides interpreting services both in person and remotely via videoconferencing
Translates documents and related material used in the District and County Courts at Law.
Supervises courts’ compliance with the language access plan; Supervises and establishes best practices of all interpreters’ performance in our courts.
Outsources, procures, and schedules freelance/contract court interpreters for all languages, including sign language; Coordinates language access services and interpreters or translation requests through the newly implemented Language Access website
Requisitions the service of interpreters; Processes invoices for payments
Follows changes to State and Federal Laws that regulate interpreting and translating services and communicating these changes to all courts.
Negotiates interpreters’ fees for hearings, trials, and subbing or support services to our courts
Organizes and schedules interpreters for weekend and holiday Magistrate Court assignments
Addresses, investigates, and resolves language service complaints
Creates and participates in outreach community events to inform and engage our LEP community and gather comments and concerns regarding the implementation and effectiveness of the Language Access Plan, as well as creating training for staff and contract interpreters on procedures of the Language Access Plan
Monitors the Language Access mailbox where incoming language services requests may come directly addressed to the LAD, or any complaints, comments, or suggestions of our LAP and/or services; Provides a timely and adequate response to resolve any issue.
Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
This is a Temporary Assignment until the end of April, 2026; there are no benefits included during this period. The position will become permanent with benefits included after this timeframe.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Associates Degree or 2 years of related course work from an accredited college or university.
Must be a Master Licensed Court Interpreter by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation pursuant to Subchapter C of the Court Interpreters Act.
5 years of job related experience in translation and interpretation including management/supervisory experience.
Strong computer and organizational skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $36.13 - $45.16 hourly based on qualifications, up to 40 hours per week during Temporary period.
