Core Responsibilities:
  • Medication Administration:
    They administer prescribed medications, including injections and intravenous medications, and monitor for any adverse reactions. 
  • Resident Care Planning:
    RNs develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and collaborate with other healthcare professionals. 
  • Documentation:
    They maintain accurate and detailed resident records, including medical histories, symptoms, and treatment plans. 
  • Patient Education:
    RNs educate residents and their families about illnesses, treatments, medications, and preventative care, as well as assisting with discharge planning and process.
  • Collaboration:
    They collaborate with providers , specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care. 
  • Patient Assessment:
    RNs conduct physical exams, assess vital signs, monitor resident conditions, and evaluate mental status. 
Specific Tasks and Activities:
  • Monitoring and Reporting:
    RNs monitor resident's conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatment, reporting any changes or concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionals. 
  • Wound Care:
    They provide wound care, including dressing changes and managing skin integrity. 
  • Assisting with Procedures:
    RNs assist with various medical procedures, such as inserting catheters, drawing blood, IV therapy. Following lab progress and documenting accordingly.
  • Equipment Management:
    They ensure that medical equipment is properly maintained and functioning. 
  • Advocacy:
    RNs advocate for their resident's needs and preferences, ensuring they receive appropriate and respectful care. 
  • Supervision:
    In some roles, RNs may supervise other nursing staff, such as licensed practical nurses (LPNs) or certified nursing assistants (CNAs).  RNs will also audit med rooms and resident areas as instructed.
