Job Description:

The Office of Economic Assistance is seeking a dedicated professional to lead the development and implementation of the SNAP Healthy Choice Waiver program, ensuring its success and positive impact on participants.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in developing food definitions and evaluating the nutritional aspects of food, enabling them to design effective strategies that promote healthier food choices within the program.

The Healthy Choice Nutritionist will:

  • Assess, evaluate and identify nutrition requirements using appropriate physiological data
  • Participate in evaluating, selecting, developing and updating nutrition education materials/handouts and revision of nutrition protocols
  • Act as a professional resource to assess educational needs, plan and educate providers and staff on nutrition options.
  • Develop, review and evaluate nutritional information that is shared with partners and participants
  • Provide technical assistance to partners and participants regarding nutritious food and beverage options
  • Develop, monitor and ensure compliance with state and federal programs related to nutrition
  • Assist in evaluation processes to ensure the efficacy of the nutrition programs.
  • Train co-workers in specific practices and procedures related to nutrition programs to ensure compliance and the success of the assigned nutrition programs.
  • Compile data and writes reports to make recommendations for program improvement based on the implementation of the nutrition programs.


 

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Experience in clinical nutrition and/or community nutrition with responsibility for a particular program or region and experience with supervision or administration.  Registration by the American Dietetics Association.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in clinical nutrition and/or community nutrition with responsibility for a particular program or region and experience with supervision or administration.  Registration by the American Dietetics Association.
  • Must have a baccalaureate or advance degree with a major in foods and nutrition/dietetics from a university or coordinated undergraduate program
  • Second language desirable.

Other: Valid Driver's License. Occasional travel, including overnight travel, may be necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:  resource materials and staff from federal agencies and other states available for consultation in nutritional programs or activities; the methodology used to evaluate the quality of nutrition services and programs on the basis of health status improvement; incidence of nutrition related problems in subgroups of the population.

Knowledge of:  the principles and practices of nutrition; the methods of dietary counseling and group education; the resources available for nutrition services; the strategies and techniques to obtain maximum benefit from nutrition services; federal rules and regulations which impact the delivery of nutrition services; the available funding mechanisms for the delivery of nutrition services; federal nutrition programs and the responsibilities for statewide nutrition programs assumed by state/local health agencies.

Ability to:  Plan and direct special statewide nutrition programs and projects; plan the nutrition component of a health program utilizing census and/or health planning information; compile and analyze statistics as a basis for program planning or for research; direct nutrition training/consultation function.

Ability to:  communicate orally and in writing with health professionals and the public to exchange information and provide education, consultation, and guidance; interpret and evaluate technical articles relating to food and nutrition; interact with individuals from a variety of socioeconomic or ethnic backgrounds.
