Job Description:

Job Duties: Under the direction of a District Manager, develop, coordinate, and implement all activities of the Wildlife Management Section within the 13 county area in the Northwest district of Nebraska, including: Administer, coordinate and implement the management of all State Wildlife Management Areas within the assigned area. Assist with field operations to construct boundary fence, erect regulatory and boundary signs, dig and spray noxious weeds, operate tools and equipment to conduct prescribed burns and other land management operations. Coordinate and administer area related contractual services, agricultural leases, federal farm program requirements, project requisitions and similar land management documentation. Perform land reconnaissance on potential acquisition sites. Assist in the implementation of all technical services related to wildlife surveys and inventories, disease control, animal damage control and wildlife propagation projects. Assist in the development of field recommendations regarding seasons, bag limits and general regulations based on interpretation of population surveys, field impressions and knowledge of life history information. Assist in the implementation of the regulatory functions of the Division related to controlled shooting areas, game farms, scientific collection and other similar programs, as well as general WMA regulations. Prepare budget requests and monitor expenditures for assigned areas. Establish and maintain professional relations with a broad array of outdoor recreationists and nature advocacy groups within the District. Perform related duties as required.


 

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND three years experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND one year experience in fish and wildlife management or a closely related field.


 

Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of wildlife habitat management principles, goals and objectives, wildlife species; life history and habitat needs, research, statistics, budgeting processes and record keeping systems, and conservation statutes and regulations as they relate to wildlife, as well as a working knowledge of current management philosophies, such as the conservation of biological diversity, landscape ecology and adaptive management. Ability to communicate effectively, set goals and objectives, perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; operate and maintain hand and power tools including chain saws, tractors and trucks; work with little supervision, supervise and direct the work of others and develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and publics.
