The Nebraska Department of Agriculture is searching for an individual to join our Food Safety Leadership Team as a Supervisor.
As a Foods Team Supervisor you will serve as a leader, supervisor, and technical advisor for Agriculture Food Sanitarians including mentoring activities, providing feedback and coaching, and oversee work assignments and team efficiencies.
You will have opportunities to collaborate with other food program leaders to assure statewide program uniformity through maintaining thorough understanding of federal and state food ordinances and codes.
A State vehicle is provided; you can look forward to eliminating that commute to work. You can expect to have initial job training in Lincoln for 3-4 days, followed by field training to ensure you have what you need to succeed.

Job Duties: Supervise Food Sanitarians including mentoring activities, providing feedback and coaching, setting performance goals, delegating tasks/responsibilities, overseeing work assignments and team efficiencies, and evaluating individual performance. Consult and collaborate with other food program leaders outside the agency to assure statewide program uniformity. Achieve and maintain FDA Standardization.  Standardize Food Sanitarians and other officials within Nebraska’s Food Safety Program. Write and submit evaluation reports on food establishments and facilities to document findings for data purposes and fulfill statutory and contractual requirements. Maintain thorough understanding of federal and state food ordinances and codes to support consistent application and dissemination of information. All other duties assigned within the scope of the classification.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Some experience or education related to food industry or food safety. Must be able to obtain and maintain certification as an FDA Standardization Officer within 36 months after being hired. Must be able to present a valid driver’s license.

Legal Requirements: All inspections conducted pursuant to the act shall be performed by persons who (a) meet the requirements of section 8-402.10 of the Food Code and, within thirty-six months after being hired to conduct such inspections, pass a certified professional food safety credential examination approved by the department that meets the requirements of Option 2 of Standard 2, Trained Regulatory Staff, of the 2022 United States Food and Drug Administration's Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards or (b) are provisional environmental health specialists or registered environmental health specialists as defined in section 38-1305 or 38-1306.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working within Food Industry.  Experience leading or mentoring others.

Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and Reliable attendance is required.


 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

Knowledge of: safe retail food and manufacturing practices and appropriate foodborne illness response and prevention; techniques, principles, and procedures set forth in the Nebraska Pure Food Act along with other applicable state and federal food codes and regulations.

Ability to: interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws pertaining to food protections; interact with public officials, business owners, and the public to promote understanding of food protection laws and regulations; lead a team of Food Sanitarians in alignment with Agency/Program goals; work collaboratively with the Program leadership team to positively impact Program performance.
