Compensation:
$70,000 - $85,000 per year. You are eligible for a Short-Term Incentive Plan with the target at 5% of your annual earnings; terms and conditions apply.



Research Associate II – Onsite in Aliso Viejo, CA
The Research Associate II is responsible for supporting the design, development and execution of novel assays based on Next-Generation Sequencing and Long Read Sequencing. This role supports Ambry’s translational research initiatives, including internal and external collaborations, working under minimal supervision. This position will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including R&D scientists, bioinformatics scientists, project managers and clinical laboratory personnel.
Essential Functions
- Perform DNA/RNA isolation from biospecimens such as blood, saliva, and buccal swabs
- Library preparation for long/short read sequencing. Monitoring of sequencing metrics
- Tracking project progress and maintenance of up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook
- Conduct data analyses and present during internal and external meetings
- Drafting work instructions, standard operating procedures and other supporting documentation
- Contribute to the design and development of novel assays for use in translational research projects and support their transition to the clinical setting
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- BS or MS degree in a life sciences field: Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
- Strong understanding of molecular biology and genetics
- Experience with DNA/RNA extraction from biospecimen such as whole blood, saliva and buccal swabs
- Experience with library preparation for short or long read sequencing and subsequent analysis and interpretation of sequencing metrics
- Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR and gel electrophoresis
- Good command of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, or equivalent office programs
Preferred
- BS with 3+ years or MS with 1+ years of laboratory research experience in an academic or industrial setting
- Strong understanding and previous experience working on human genetics
- Proficient in the following molecular biology techniques: library preparation for short or long read sequencing, DNA/RNA extraction from biospecimens (blood/saliva/buccal), PCRs and analysis of electrophoretic traces
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to present organized summaries to internal or external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
- Strong willingness to learn new laboratory techniques and procedures, as well as expand your knowledge about genetic variation and its connection to genetic diseases
- Previous experience or interest in learning more about data interpretation
- Good command of sequencing metrics interpretation
- Previous hands-on experience with long-read sequencing will be positively valued
