JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lab Specific Duties- Perform and troubleshoot technical duties in the Anatomic Pathology laboratory. Maintain CAP standards in all areas of work with the application of the Anatomic Pathology Quality Management Program. Perform grossing and dictation of pathology specimens in accordance with departmental procedures, and under the direction of the Director of Pathology. Ensures cleanliness and readiness of the autopsy suite, including ensuring appropriate inventory levels. Assist with autopsies under the direction of the Director of Pathology. Assist with the training of Pathology residents and fellows. Assist with intra-operative frozen sections as needed. Continuous professional development through working with Staff Pathologists in a progression of learning more complex specimen types. Store clinically important or significant frozen specimens in coordination with Biobank personnel.

  • Communication- Effectively demonstrate communication skills related to conveying relevant information. Develop and maintain efficient internal communication processes to support the activities of the department/program. Openly communicate across many departments regarding clinical, patient care, physical and/or material resources. Keep key leadership, administrative staff and other stakeholders fully informed of projected and actual developments in a timely manner. Prioritize multiple requests for information. Assemble and distribute material for project communications if necessary.

  • Safety/Infection Control/Compliance- Minimize the risk of infection, transmission, and personal hazards by applying CCHMC safety standards. Maintain cleanliness of reagents and work areas. Assist in the maintenance, oversight, and/or management of compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, such as JCAHO, HIPAA, and/or other accreditation standards. May participate in activities related to organizational, regulatory, and governmental compliance.

  • Maintenance & Procedures- Assist with maintenance of various pieces of equipment. Help maintain/order inventory. Keep work environment well-organized. May troubleshoot and/or correct erroneous results or problems with equipment. May provide appropriate safety/quality monitoring checks and document as assigned. Participate in the development, maintenance, and/or revision of policies, procedures, and/or manuals.

  • Collaboration- Work collaboratively/cooperatively with others to achieve goals. Proactively adjust one's style and/or efforts to complement those of others. Develop positive working relationships with peers/colleagues. Share knowledge and/or provide support for team members. Contribute to and promote a positive and professional work environment/atmosphere. May serve as a liaison within the division or organization.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree

  • 2+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

  • ASCP Pathologists' Assistant Certification
