Full Pay Range: $56,250 - $79,000 Annually

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

This position may qualify for a $0.30 multilingual pay differential.

The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist provides services to participants enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition program.  The Maricopa WIC Program provides participant-centered, evidence-based nutrition and breastfeeding education, counseling, and support to over 42,000 participants per month.  Our staff are creative, innovative, and passionate about maternal and child nutrition, and seek to make a difference in their community.

We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration OR RDN eligible and able to pass the credentialing exam within 12 months of hire, with the first attempt at credentialing exam occurring within three months of hire 

  • Completion of an ACEND-accredited dietetic internship upon hire

Job Contributions

  • Provides services to WIC participants such as high-risk nutrition counseling, formula and food approvals, verification of program eligibility, anthropometric, and hemoglobin tests

  • Provides counseling in a participant-centered manner through motivational interviewing and emotion-based counseling to elicit behavior changes

  • Conducts nutrition and breastfeeding assessments

  • Functions in a lead capacity in the absence of the Clinic Supervisor/Lead RDN

  • Assists Clinic Supervisor, Training Team, and Nutrition Services Manager in staff training/development activities at the clinics following regulations and standards

  • Acts as a preceptor for Dietetic Interns 

Working Conditions

  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

  • A flexible work schedule is needed that may include evenings

  • Valid Arizona driver's license is required upon hire

  • May be assigned to work at alternate WIC sites, requiring traveling to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of a County or private vehicle used on County business

  • Position is not 100% telework; there is an option to work in a shared clinic space, or time may be split working remotely from your home and in a shared clinic space; home access to a computer, mobile device, and the internet is necessary if you choose to split time between home and office; daily communication with co-workers will be through virtual meetings, email, and Microsoft Teams messaging

  • Participant interactions will include virtual appointments via video and phone as well as in-person appointments

  • Ability to exert 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly

  • Ability to participate in emergency response training as scheduled and be available to respond as directed in the event of a public health emergency

  • Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
