JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Leadership - Provide on time availability of supplies/instrumentation for surgical and clinic procedures, appropriate and timely processing of sterile items, sterile supply (soft goods) availability according to established PAR levels. Ensure that the operation of all sterile processing functions is performed in accordance to regulatory and hospital standards, and internal policy and procedure. Collaborate with others in SPD, Periop, Clinic leadership ensuring current processes are relevant and best practice as relates to SPD activities. Create or validate the daily assignments for sterile processing staff. Responsible for time keeping for their respective shift. Provide supervision in the absence of the SPD Manager.
Staff Supervision - Plans and supervises activities of Sterile Processing & Distribution (SPD) team and perioperative and clinic flow. Leads staff meetings and assures educational presentations are relevant to staff, participates in interviewing and recommendations for hire/retention. Ensures successful orientation for new hires; counsels staff; coaches and provides feedback to staff and completes and assists Manager/Director in completing annual evaluations and corrective action in a timely manner.
Staff Leadership - Maintains positive environment to assure morale supports retention of qualified staff & assures productivity measures are met. Assures preceptors skills match needs of new staff to ensure successful orientation for new hires; monitors staff competency standards on annual basis. Counsel's staff as warranted. Is available to assist staff in understanding rules, regulations and responsibilities of employment, managing their work time and encouraging their achievements.
Resource Management - Ensure efficient and cost effective resource management, including staffing, supplies, equipment, and instrumentation. Assures policies/protocols for activities in SPD are followed; provides input to protocol/policy formulation & revision as indicated. Validates record keeping in accord with hospital and regulatory agency requirements (JCAHO, OSHA). Manages timely preventive maintenance for instrumentation and equipment. Assists in management of instrument/equipment as relates to repair/replacement protocols. Monitors best practices to assure optimal quality is delivered in all functions/behaviors relevant to SPD.
Fiscal Responsibility - Demonstrates fiscal and operational accountability. Maintains current and up to date knowledge of SPD requirements.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
Certification as either Certified Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST), OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) is required
Additional certification of either Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL), OR Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) is preferred
