MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Graduate of a surgical technician program, nurse aid program, or medical assistant program.
3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:
1. One (1) year of experience working in an OR or endoscopic setting.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Creates and maintains a sterile field.
1. Uses principles of aseptic technique in varying situations.
3. Inspects sterile items for contamination before opening and maintains sterility while opening sterile items for procedure.
5. recognizes unseen boundaries between sterile and unsterile.
6. Saves and identifies all specimens according to policy and procedure.
7. Prepares instruments according to physician’s preference and procedure.
8. Under direction of registered nurse prepares medications used on surgical table
9. Prepares endoscopy scopes and equipment needed for procedure
10. Assists registered nurse in planning patient care.
11. Adapts the procedure to meet individual age-specific needs of the patient.
12. Prepares room in a timely manner with anticipated equipment, instruments, and supplies needed for procedure.
13. Ensures availability of supplies prior to procedure.
14. Uses supplies judiciously in a cost-effective manner.
15. Provides patient with explanation and verbal reassurances consistently.
16. Assists with biopsy forceps electro cauterization devices, other equipment.
17. Positions patient for procedure ensuring patient safety and comfort.
18. Prepares pathology specimens for the laboratory.
19. Meets patient safety risks related to sedation/anesthesia.
20. Keep physician informed on any matter which may have an effect in the patient’s medical
care or general well-being in hospital environment.
21. Takes scheduling for endoscopy procedures. 2
22. Keeps charge nurse and/or physician informed about reportable incidents and
departmental concerns. 5
23. Maintains two-way communication in a professional manner including:
· Keeping charge nurse informed.
· Establish and maintains good rapport with staff
24. Performs and/or assists with clinical preceptor role.
25. Presents/assists with department in-service presentations.
26. Attends all hospital mandatory skill updates and training classes.
27. Performs non-clinical duties that relates to department operations:
· Maintains a clean, neat and safe environment for patients and staff.
· Cleans rooms between procedures.
· Ensures that supplies and equipment are stored in an organized
and efficient manner.
· Rooms are restocked at the end of the day, or sooner if needed.
28. Maintains compliance with department “call” coverage and with “call-in” times and policies.
29. Performs clerical duties, including:
· Enters orders/scheduling into computer.
· Enter patient procedure/supply charges into computer.
· Maintains stock of office supplies and forms.
· Enters storeroom order into computer.
· Records in Endo Room Log Book.

1. Must be physically capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
2. Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighing in excess of 200 pounds.
3. Must possess visual/oral acuity along with manual dexterity and technical ability.

1. Must be able to work in a high stress environment wearing surgical attire and PPE appropriate for work areas.
2. Must be able to enter a patient care environment during surgical or procedural case.
3. Must be able to handle chemicals, disinfectants, and other solutions used for sterilization and high level disinfection.
4. Exposed to communicable diseases, body fluids, and chemicals.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Must be able to operate computer programs with training such as instrument tracking system and scope cleaning software; able to use necessary departmental/hospital software applications.
2. Must have the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
3. Demonstrates team-centered professional communications with physicians, nurses, technicians, and other customers.
4. Knowledge of infection control principles applicable in hospital setting.
5. Abilities to perform multi-step procedures and prioritize work tasks.
