Summary

Manual Machinist I, Lathes operator can safely and efficiently manufacture parts that meet all quality and safety requirements. This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the group leader.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate efforts to safely and efficiently produce product that meets all quality parameters. 

  • Proven understanding of all machining principles. 

  • Understand the correlation between lead error and helix angles, and be able to adjust the machine accordingly. 

  • Ability to track and document die usage and evaluate die condition. 

  • Basic understanding of thread lead and helix angles. 

  • Capable of identifying and communicating recommendations for product and productivity enhancements (lean initiatives). 

  • Work in a team environment with material schedulers to support customer needs. 

  • Maintain compliance with company policy, safety, and good housekeeping practices. 

  • Advanced level of job operating efficiency. 

  • Basic ability to monitor and measure products to ensure tolerance/specs adherence. 

  • Ability to effectively train new operators. 

  • Able to work closely in a teamwork environment. 

  • Able to prioritize work in an efficient and productive manner. 

  • Responsible for basic upkeep and cleanliness of machines and area. 

  • Ability to troubleshoot machines as needed. 

  • Demonstrated willingness and ability associated with being a self-starter. 

  • Ability to motivate co-workers for continuous quality improvement. 

  • Ability to keep scrap and rework at minimal levels as defined. 

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Highschool Diploma or GED required. 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years proven experience. 

  • Minimal layout capabilities.

  • Sound mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to read precision measuring equipment. 

  • Capable of understanding and following routing information.

  • Basic knowledge of product.

  • Basic blueprint reading skills and programming knowledge or experience.

  • Basic set-up capabilities, tooling knowledge, understanding of feeds and speeds. 

  • Overhead crane and fork truck experience required. 

  • Basic understanding of gearing terminology.

  • Provide your own tools. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods standing. 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
