Position Summary 

This position will support the Corporate Accounting Manager with monthly accounting activities This role will be responsible for bank and account reconciliations, general ledger entries, fixed asset accounting, and special projects. The ideal candidate is a strong team player with effective communication skills and a positive cultural fit within a collaborative, inoffice environment. 

This position will play a key role in the corporate accounting function of a growing, employee-owned (ESOP) construction company.  The Senior Corporate Accountant will own assigned responsibilities and work closely with the Corporate Accounting Manager to scale processes, strengthen controls, and improve the overall efficiency of the close and reporting process. 

The ideal candidate can bring prior experience, would exercise sound judgement, and proactively identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, not just execute them. 

Key Responsibilities 

Monthly Close & Core Accounting 

  • Own assigned components of the monthly close process, including preparation, review, and analysis of account reconciliations.   

  • Prepare, review, and post general ledger journal entries with a focus on accuracy, consistency and documentation.   

  • Own specific balance sheet and income statement areas, including variance analysis, issue resolution, and reporting. 

  • Identify, research, and resolve accounting issues and discrepancies, escalating matters as appropriate. 

 

Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Analysis  

  • Prepare and analyze financial reports and variances, providing clear explanations and insights to management. 

  • Support forecasting and analytical efforts partnering with our FP&A team by identifying trends and potential risks. 

  • Particpate in the annual budgeting process, including data validation, analytical support, and coordination with stakeholders. 

Audit, Controls & Compliance 

  • Serve as a key point of contact for assigned audit areas, preparing audit schedules, responding to audit inquiries, while ensuring timely resolution of requests. 

  • Assist in designing, documenting, and continuously improving accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support a scalable organization. 

  • Identify control gaps or inefficiencies while recommending improvements. 

Process Improvement & Special Projects 

  • Lead or contribute to special projects, including process improvements, system enhancements, and integration of new or acquired entities. 

  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline reconciliations, reduce manual processes, and improve close efficiency. 

  • Partner with cross functional teams that would be assigned for various ad hoc projects.   

Collaboration & Leadership  

  • Collaborate closely with accounting team members both at the holding company and subsidiary level to provide guidance and accountability where appropriate. 

  • Serve as trusted resource and informal mentor to less experienced team members. 

  • Identify, research, and resolve accounting issues and discrepancies, including variance analysis and issue resolution.   

Systems & Technical Skills 

  • Hands on experience with ERP and financial reporting systems (Vista Viewpoint a plus) with the ability to improve how systems are utilized. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, and reconciliation support. 

  • Experience improving reporting, reconciliations, or close processes using system capabilities. 

 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred. 

  •  5+ years of progressive accounting experience (corporate, construction, or public accounting experience preferred).  

  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial analysis 

  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes in a multi entity organization a plus.
