General Description

The purpose of this class is to schedule and complete maintenance and repairs to County assets while following current policy and safety measures.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.  Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.

Supervises and assists in the repair of all department vehicles and equipment.

Supervises and assists in all on-the-road repairs.

Operates testing equipment to troubleshoot and diagnoses equipment failures.

Operates road equipment and vehicles for testing purposes.

Monitors and implements the equipment and vehicular preventative maintenance program.

Submits requisitions and maintains inventory of spare parts.

Reviews and monitors the cost and repairs of department equipment.

Prepares and submits estimates for the repair or replacement of vehicles and equipment.

Participates in the development of equipment specifications.

Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent with one year of specialized training in automotive repair.

Requires two years of experience in government accounting, general finance operations or closely related experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.

The work is typically performed in an office and service center, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery and chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Emergency Preparedness Tier Level:  3

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Requires State of Texas Vehicle Inspector license.

Requires FEMA Certs 100,200,700, and 800.

Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
