On any given day, this role might involve walking through campus buildings to troubleshoot locksets, configuring new access credentials before a student move-in, or collaborating with a vendor to implement an access system upgrade. Alongside a small, experienced team, this position supports field hardware, maintaining, repairing, upgrading, and expanding the card access system. These systems operate continuously and comprise 2,500 readers, serving more than 7,000 users across 40+ campus buildings.
This position includes a week-long on-call rotation approximately once per month to support card access operations. Most after-hour events are resolved remotely with minimal need for on-site response.
Duties/Responsibilities
Field Hardware Support and System Monitoring (55%)
Primary responsibilities are field hardware support: maintaining, repairing, upgrading and expanding the card access system configuring controlling access software to ensure field devices work as expected and designed.
Configure system, software, and locksets to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Serve technical support partner for new installations or repairs to electronic locksets across USNH buildings. This includes the need to create efficient processes to share access information with other stakeholders, such as securely sharing digital combinations and ensuring quick and accurate dissemination of access credentials to residents and programming locksets.
Monitor systems for performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Define and establish preventative maintenance procedures and create processes and schedules to test, document, and report compliance.
Design and deploy expansions of networked wireless access devices, proprietary wireless Panel Interface Modules (PIMs) and standardized Wi-Fi devices, C-Cure 9000 access servers, and other system hardware. Collaborate and/or guide the HNS team and management and other stakeholders to assess near- and long-term needs.
Staff Supervision and Customer Service (20%)
Shared Supervision of part-time (PT) staff of two or more members to instruct the Networked Housing staff or contracted staff in repairs, preventative maintenance, upgrades, and projects.
Train and supervise first-tier technical support.
Create, assign, and schedule recurring staff work.
Coordinate and prioritize assignments to ensure the best customer service.
Secondary System Administration and Electronic Combination Locksets (15%)
Secondary system administrator of enterprise security access application, C- Cure 9000, and all networked hardware consisting of magnetic swipe, Electronic Combo, Proximity, and wireless security access devices.
Fills in as the primary system administrator when that administrator is absent or not available or while covering on-call duties.
This role is the primary configuration manager of more than five hundred electronic combination locksets, ensuring locksets operate as intended and combinations are updated and shared appropriately. Provide project management/work for HNS systems as required.
Additional Administrative Duties (10%)
Develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of the departments that the position supports.
Serve on Housing, Residential Life, Student Life, and/or university committees.
Provide support in the development of short- and long-range plans.
Participate in professional development opportunities to remain on the forefront of the field.
On call rotation with Housing Network Systems team.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Associate’s degree and 3 years of experience.
Required Licenses & Certifications:
NH Driver’s License and safe driving record.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Overall information technology skills as required by employing department/unit.
Organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills. Supervisory ability.
Experience with Card Access and Security System operations, repairing, testing, upgrades, design, project management and expansion preferably with Software House C-Cure 9000 recognized certifications and/or training completion credentials.
Basic low voltage troubleshooting and repair skills. Basic database knowledge and experience.
Experience with the following Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access.
Other Requirements:
Position requires the use of the following test equipment as necessary: Digital Multi-Meter (DMM), Tone Generator and Probe Kit, battery load testing device.
Preferred Qualifications:
AS in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) or equivalent education and work experience CompTIA™ or equivalent certifications in Network+, Server+, Data+.
Project management experience working collaboratively with other stakeholders to complete both in-house and contracted technical projects.
Understanding database design principles and basic data modeling, in addition to basic database programming, including writing and optimizing SQL queries.
Preferably with completed class work and/or training certifications with Microsoft Office products.
Low voltage alarm or security license.
