Position Summary
The Housekeeper Supervisor is an experienced custodial position responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and safety in state facilities. This role involves advanced custodial duties, the management of custodial supplies and equipment, and the supervision and training of lower-level housekeeping staff. Employees at this level must exercise sound judgment, follow sanitation and safety protocols, and ensure compliance with state standards.
· Sweep, dust, mop, wax, and polish floors.
· Clean and sanitize restrooms, laboratories, offices, and public spaces.
· Disinfect and maintain furniture, fixtures, and equipment to ensure sanitary
conditions.
· Collect and dispose of general trash, medical waste, and contaminated materials.
· Maintain proper containers and follow protocols for hazardous waste and sharps disposal.
· Order, receive, and distribute custodial supplies.
· Maintain accurate inventory records.
· Operate custodial and floor care equipment safely and effectively.
· Report safety violations, potential hazards, and maintenance needs.
· Respond to and assist in emergency situations.
· Ensure compliance with infection control, sanitation, and state safety standards.
· Provide instruction, guidance, and supervision to lower-level housekeeping/custodial workers.
· Assign tasks and monitor performance to ensure quality standards are met.
· Maintain accurate records related to cleaning schedules, supply usage, and safety compliance.
· Prepare reports as required by supervisors or facility management.
· 18 months of custodial or institutional housekeeping experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, supplies, and custodial equipment.
· Understanding of hazardous waste disposal procedures, including medical waste.
· Skill in operating custodial equipment safely and effectively.
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
· Ability to supervise and train staff, establish effective working relationships, and
ensure compliance with standards.
· Effective oral and written communication skills.
