Comprehensive Insurance Plans:

Job Description
Position Title: Transportation Specialist
Department: Materials
Division: 9
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: 5201 NE 122nd St Bldg 4011, Edmond, OK 73013
Note: Candidates selected for positions at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation may be required to complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening before beginning employment. Some positions may also require applicants to participate in a Physical Abilities Demonstration and be rated as capable of performing the essential functions of this job family.
Job Duties:
Assist the driller with drilling and field work operations.
Collect soil samples in the field.
Assist with various field test and sampling activities.
Perform and learn routine repairs and maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
Follow safety rules for all projects.
Education and Experience
Level I:
Education and Experience requirements are none.
Level II:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in transportation related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting two college courses in mathematics, natural science, engineering or a closely related field for the year of the required experience.
Level III:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of three years of experience in transportation related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting 30 semester hours for each year of the required experience, including two college courses in mathematics, natural science, engineering or a closely related field.
Level IV:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of four years of experience in transportation related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting 30 semester hours for each year of the required experience, including two college courses in mathematics, natural science, engineering or a closely related field.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of basic geometry and algebra; of basic laboratory equipment; of construction materials; and of the English language in order to follow written and oral instructions. Ability is required to measure distance; to collect data; to operate computer equipment; and to operate transportation-related equipment.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver’s license. Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position. Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. § 427.8.
Additional Job Duties
The applicant will refill a vacancy on a 2-person team. Having two members on this team is critical for safe operations. Applicants will work outdoors in the heat, cold, and muddy environments to collect soils samples. Applicants will work near heavy equipment and assist with the maintenance of that equipment. Applicants must be able to lift as much as 80 pounds. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and be willing and able to stay out of town overnight if the need arises.
