Electrocardiology - EKGJob Description:
The EEG/EKG Tech is responsible for performing EEGs, EKGs, and performs clerical duties. The technician assists at the Outpatient desk, Doctors Clinic, Emergency Department, IV Therapy and assists in patient care area. Minimum Qualifications o Education o High school degree or equivalent required. o Credentials o BLS required. o Oxygen certification (Medication Aide Training Hospital based) required within 6 months of hiring. Update to be completed every 2 years. Physical Demands 1. Sit four hours per day. 2. Stand and/or walks four hours per day. 3. Lifts up to 30 pounds two to three times per day. 4. Push and/or pull patients on carts and wheelchairs daily. 5. Reach, stoop, and bend throughout the day. 6. Visual acuity and eye/hand coordination required.Essential Functions
1. Coordinates scheduling of all tests and/or services utilizing current clinical guidelines.
2. Review's patient's record and instructs patients prior to procedures. Monitors patient during procedures and reports any abnormal findings.
3. Attaches, connects, and operates electrodes from specified body areas to leads from monitoring equipment.
4. Identifies and corrects artifacts. Edits and forward results to interpreting physician for analysis and interpretation. Maintains patient data and enters it into patient EMR.
5. Review patient testing, interpreting and communicating results in a manner consistent with the age of the patient. Recognizes clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results.
6. Assists with cleaning, adjusting and performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning. Reports unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to Biomed, Engineering Department or director.
7. Maintains and stocks supplies for the department.
8. Recognizes critical deviations in patient conditions. Intervenes appropriately in situations where basic life support systems are threatened and documents intervention.
9. Actively participates in assigned meetings and hospital committees.
