Job Description

Basic Purpose:

The Administrator of Physical Security is responsible for overseeing all aspects of physical security within the prison system. This includes the development, implementation, and management of security policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors. The Administrator will manage various security systems, including surveillance cameras, perimeter detection, access control, and key management systems. Collaboration with multiple departments is essential to maintain a secure environment and respond to security incidents effectively.

Typical Functions:

  • Develop, implement, maintain comprehensive security policies and procedures.

  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and operation of security systems and equipment, including surveillance cameras, perimeter detection systems, access control systems, key management systems, etc.

  • Ensure all security protocols are adhered to and updated regularly.

  • Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities.

  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified security risks.

  • Coordinate with other departments to address security concerns and implement corrective actions.

  • Train and supervise security personnel, ensuring they are knowledgeable about current security protocols and procedures, including the use of surveillance cameras, perimeter detection, access control, and key management systems.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Typical Functions:

An in-depth knowledge of web systems architecture, design, and development; and of supervisory practices and principles. Ability to conduct physical security analysis and research; to plan, direct, and coordinate the activity of others; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to organize and manage several projects simultaneously; and to analyze complex situations and adopt an appropriate course of action. Proficiency in security systems and technology.

Education and Experience:

Statutorily Required: N/A

Minimum Qualifications: Normal visual color discrimination. Physical requirements include lifting and dragging 50 pounds occasionally. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time to perform job scope. Requires visual acuity. Minimum of 7 years of experience in security management, preferably within a correctional facility, two (2) years of which were in management or supervisory role. Proven experience in managing security systems and leading security personnel.

Preferred Qualifications: Licensed vocational training equal to 4 years in field related to physical security, electrical, network, CCTV or bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field.
