The Applied Medical Cybersecurity Lab focuses on securing the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) through research in network intrusion detection, anomaly detection, secure testbeds, and mobile app development for healthcare security monitoring. The lab collaborates with faculty, graduate students, and external partners across USNH.

The Adjunct Researcher will support ongoing NIH- and INBRE-funded projects in medical device and IoMT cybersecurity. The role involves a combination of data analysis, software development, and literature review. The researcher will work closely with undergraduate students and the PI and will have opportunities to contribute to publications and conference presentations.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting and preprocessing IoMT network traffic datasets.

  • Implement and evaluate machine learning algorithms (e.g., logistic regression, SVM, random forest) for intrusion detection.

  • Develop prototype software tools (e.g., mobile apps, dashboards) for data visualization.

  • Contribute to documentation, experiment logs, and progress reports.

  • Participate in weekly lab meetings; present findings and progress.

  • Collaborate with team members on poster/paper preparation for conferences.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong programming skills (Python required; Java/Android or App Inventor experience desirable).

  • Familiarity with statistics and machine learning methods.

  • Interest in cybersecurity, networks, and healthcare applications.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in relevant subject area; prior college teaching experience.
