This is a teaching position for one of the music department’s core Music Education courses, Techniques and Methods of Woodwind Instruments (MUED 747/847). The course is staffed by five individual instructors, each with pedagogical experience in a specific woodwind instrument (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon). Each instructor possesses expertise unique to their instrument and is an expert in their field. It is their responsibility to provide students with pedagogical information pertinent to their specific instrument specialty. This course functions to provide music education students with the tools necessary to teach in the public schools. Portions of this course help music education majors meet state teacher certification standards, including learning how to teach common beginning musical instruments and understanding their transpositions. This position does not represent essential staff.
Duties/Responsibilities
Instruction
Deliver six-twelve, 50-minute lectures.
Provide in-class feedback on instrumental playing and peer teaching.
Administer in class assignments, written assignments, written tests, and playing exams.
Be available for office hours outside of class.
Model proper instrumental performance and pedagogy.
Class preparation
Create an instrument specific syllabus.
Prepare six-twelve, 50-minute lectures.
Create an instrument specific unit in MyCourses with playing and reading assignments, pedagogical videos, etc.
Respond to student email regarding course and its content.
Grading
Grading of in-class assignments, written assignments, written tests, and playing exams.
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
A bachelor’s degree with a proficiency in the performance and pedagogy of one of the five woodwind instruments.
