The Research Security Officer, CUI Manager is responsible in maintaining institutional compliance with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) regulations, including NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and other federal mandates. This position develops and implements security policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure researchers properly manage CUI within the university's research activities.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible in maintaining institutional compliance with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) regulations, including NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and other federal mandates.

  • This position develops and implements security policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure researchers properly manage CUI within the university's research activities.

  • Additionally, the Research Security Officer plays a key role in broader research security initiatives, including risk management, regulatory compliance, and coordination with federal agencies.

  • The role involves collaborating with ETS on policy related to the Cloud-based environments for CUI, serving on a campus CUI Committee, and working closely with researchers to ensure security controls align with federal standards.

  • The Research Security Officer/CUI Manager serves as an essential part of the university's research security framework, working to protect sensitive research, mitigate risks, and maintain institutional compliance with federal security mandates.

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and three to five years of relevant experience.

  • Need to hold 8140 certification for an Information Systems Security Manager or obtain within 6-months from hire.

  •  Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance

  • Certifications: CISSP, CISM, CMMC Assessor, or other security credentials.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, or a related discipline.

  • Five years of experience in research security, cybersecurity compliance, or information security roles.

  • Strong knowledge of NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and federal CUI handling regulations.

  • 2+ years of writing system Security Plans, POA&Ms, Incident Response Plans

  • Experience working with cloud security solutions, particularly Azure and AWS cloud environments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience implementing GovCloud or other secure cloud-based research platforms.

  • Prior experience in higher education research security.

  • Currently hold a Secret Security Clearance

 

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license upon and during employment

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Compensation Pay Range:

$75/hour
