This adjunct staff position supports the orderly continuation and closeout of externally funded research awards previously led by a faculty member who has left the University. The role maintains institutional affiliation with the University of New Hampshire to ensure uninterrupted administration of active federal awards, including compliance, reporting, and coordination with university offices.
The position does not include teaching, supervision of students, or expectation of generating new research funding. The scope is limited to stewardship of existing awards through their remaining lifecycle, ensuring continuity of research activities, personnel support where applicable, and fulfillment of sponsor and institutional requirements. This is a temporary, non-benefitted position aligned with the duration of active awards.
Duties/Responsibilities
Award Stewardship and Continuity (50%)
Maintain continuity of active externally funded research awards through their remaining project periods
Ensure compliance with sponsor requirements, including progress reports, deliverables, and documentation
Coordinate with Sponsored Programs Administration and departmental staff on award management
Support adherence to institutional policies related to grant administration
Administrative Coordination (25%)
Serve as a point of contact for matters related to existing awards
Collaborate with department, institute, and college administration to support ongoing project needs
Assist in documentation required for award closeout processes
Ensure appropriate recordkeeping and transition of project materials as needed
Transition and Closeout Activities (25%)
Facilitate orderly wind-down of research activities as awards conclude
Coordinate final technical and financial reporting with appropriate offices
Support transition of any remaining project responsibilities or materials to designated personnel
Ensure compliance with all sponsor and institutional closeout requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in a relevant field
Prior experience serving as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on externally funded research awards
Demonstrated experience managing federally funded research projects
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of federal research grant administration and compliance requirements
Ability to manage multiple award-related tasks with attention to detail and deadlines
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Ability to work collaboratively with administrative, financial, and research support units
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Other Requirements:
Continued eligibility to serve in a role supporting externally funded research within university policies
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience managing grant closeout processes
Familiarity with UNH systems and administrative procedures
Established collaborative relationships within the department or research institute
