Triage/initial contact assessment, student/clinician scheduling, and all front office responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Serve in a quasi-clinical assessment role, screening client students at initial contact using semi-structure interview questions, behavioral observations (e.g. affect, speech, nonverbal communication) triaging and making judgements about the level of threat to determine urgency to be seen based on clinical signs such as suicidal ideation, homicidal risk, thoughts of harm to self or others; consults with director/clinicians as appropriate.

  • Coordinates client service hours for student clients, with the clinicians who work in the summer (up to 4 licensed clinicians, and up to 3 unlicensed practicum/internship trainees/students), taking into account the level of urgent needs. This position requires flexibility in the work schedule due to the unpredictability of emergent needs for students in crisis. (i.e. working with students in crisis does not fall neatly into a standard 8:00am- 4:30pm with break for lunch).

  • This position requires a high degree of confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA and FERPA.

  • This position requires risk management not only for the student/client but also for the safety and security of the Counseling Center staff, the University, and the Community.

  • Consultation with Frost House staff (e.g. Title IX Coordinator), faculty, staff, parents/guardians, Health Services, University Police, and other community partners Lakes Region Mental Health Center.

  • Data management: Managing Titanium, the software for scheduling, records, and data management for 3 licensed clinicians and up to 3 unlicensed practicum/internship trainees/students, and routine and emergency walk-in and on-call coverage; Scanning clinical/medical documentation and uploading to client chart in Titanium; Ensuring clients complete appropriate forms and upload to client chart.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduation and five years of related experience involving progressive responsible duties requiring discretion and independent judgment or Associate’s Degree and three years of related experience or a combination of higher education and related experience equal to five years.

  • Ability to adjust and prioritize in continually changing work environment.

  • Willingness to do what is needed to get the job done in response to student client emergencies (e.g. staying late on a weekday, rescheduling a lunch).

  • Willingness to take campus-sponsored work-related short courses.

  • Understanding of programming terminology and familiarity with computer-based procedures.

  • Experience in public relations, marketing, telecommunications or electronics as specified by department.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public.

  • Work experience in a college/university environment.

  • Associate's degree.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Experience in a mental health setting.

  • One year of experience in clerical/office support work, or specialized training/higher education, or any combination of experience and additional training equal to one year.

  • Experience at a mental health setting.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Compensation Pay Range:

$27-$29 per hour
