The Computer Systems Administrator is responsible for serving as the primary technical resource for the all networks, digital security, phone systems, and server infrastructure in support of Great Plains Health's information systems. He/She is responsible for the performance of activities related to the selection, implementation, and testing of local and wide-area network software and hardware components; oversees the implementation and testing of Windows, Unix, and Linux server-based applications; maintains Firewalls, network appliances, security devices, Storage Area Networks, converged infrastructure, and coordinates on-site performance tuning for the local fiber optic and wide-area networks and the server-based applications. Above all Computer Systems Administrators are accountable for the stability and reliability of GP Health’s computer infrastructure. These Administrators are responsible for providing a clear technical perspective on the installation and maintenance requirements of the hospital's information systems, and they are charged with identifying and resolving technical problems with servers, Storage Area Networks, tape libraries, the local and wide-area network switching equipment, operating systems, and the applications installed at Great Plains Health. The Computer Systems Administrators, work together to provide technical and operational leadership for the organization’s computer infrastructure. Computer Systems Administrators provide technical training, documentation and cross training for all supported systems. Minimum Qualifications o Education o Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, electrical engineering, or equivalent in education/experience. Also acceptable: formal technical training regarding the installation and support of Microsoft Windows domains, IP networking, and multiple years of experience as a computer systems technician such that technical knowledge of networks and personal computer systems can be demonstrated. o Credentials o none Physical Demands 1. Communicates effectively and openly in operations activities. Demonstrates courtesy, diplomacy, and tact in interactions with internal and external customers. Follows the customer service guidelines established by the organization. Fosters trust in relationships with workforce members. • 2. Plans, implements, integrates, protects and maintains local area, wireless and wide area network-related resources. Review and analysis of audits, logs, and metric reports to monitor the performance and quality of the organization's multiple network infrastructures. Creates and verifies server and device configuration backups. • 3. Provides technical analysis and support for the server-based applications integrated into business operations. Implements network server systems as directed by management. Responsible for security (system, file, data, and user) of applications and their hardware platforms. • 4. Provides documentation, procedures, information, and guidance to IS customers throughout the design, selection, installation, and implementation of computer systems. • 5. Works with workforce members in the development of long- and short-range computer system infrastructure plans that support the mission, values and goals of the organization. • 6. Monitors changes in technology. Recommends system improvements based on monitoring activity. • 7. Attends training as directed. Researches solutions to configuration and setup issues. Creates solutions using existing software and hardware tool set. Participates in disaster recovery drills. • 8. Participates in the budget process by tracking needs and facilitating cost quotations. Creates equipment orders as necessary. • 9. Cross trains other computer systems administrators. • 10. Follows hospital rules, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and standards including those that are established for safe patient care and prompt reporting of patient safety issues and errors.
