Job Description:
Reports to: Executive Director, Quality and Safety
Position Summary:
This position supports Risk Management functions for Northeast Hospital Corporation (Beverly, Addison Gilbert and Bayridge Hospitals, Care Center Danvers and affiliated clinics; and, Anna Jaques Hospital and its affiliates. The Risk Management Coordinator works closely with clinical and operational leaders in risk identification, event reporting and prevention/mitigation strategies for both clinical and non-clinical risks. The Risk Management (RM) Coordinator is actively involved in critical incident investigation/RCA, trend analysis, risk management education and policy/standard development. This position acts as an organizational resource in areas of risk and patient safety and remains current with/assures compliance to applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
Responsibilities:
· Uses formal & informal data sources to proactively monitor & evaluate organizational risk with an emphasis on patient, employee, and visitor safety.
· Conducts department/service risk assessments to identify opportunities for risk avoidance, prevention, transfer, reduction, and/or mitigation (applies FMEA model as appropriate).
· Develops, coordinates, and/or provides risk management & patient safety educational programs to minimize the frequency/severity of harm events.
· Participates in the development and implementation of policy & procedure that affects liability exposures across domains &/or improves patient safety.
· Participates in the investigation of serious/critical events using Just Culture model.
· Participates in claims management process through early identification/reporting of potentially compensable events (PCEs) (may also include response to discovery request & interrogatories).
· Collaborates with legal services to act as an organizational resource on issues related to professional, general, & other insurable risk/liability & patient safety.
· Participates in risk management-related regulatory readiness activities.
· Promotes organizational patient safety initiatives & supports the malpractice insurance program for professional and general liability.
· Routinely collaborates with others in proactive risk forecasting & optimizing improvement opportunities across all risk domains.
Knowledge/ Skills:
1. Ability to collaborate with the board of trustees, medical staff, & healthcare personnel at all levels
2. Knowledge of current local, state, and federal regulations and standards
3. Organizational skills
4. Written/oral communication skills
5. Proficient in group/team process
6. Ability to produce/analyze data & communicate results
7. Ability to teach effectively at all hospital levels
8. Willingness to travel to multiple sites
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree with a Clinical Healthcare Major
Masters Degree preferred
Minimum of (5) years of clinical/acute care experience
Certification/License: Certification in risk management (CPHRM) preferred
