ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs children, youth and/or adults in learn-to-swim skills and techniques.
Tests and evaluates class participants.
Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or players, and/or customers.
Performs customer relations role which may include interacting with parents, participants, business or program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems.
Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meeting as needed
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Ability to keep accurate records, organize information, and follow established procedures.
Ability to be available and willing to work scheduled hours.
Ability to demonstrate a clean and neat appearance.
Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills.
Ability to demonstrate swimming skills at the standard for the American Red Cross learn to swim program.
Ability to organize information and follow established procedures.
Ability to work well with children, youth and adults.
Ability, interest, and desire to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to attend required staff meetings and trainings.
Ability to evaluate conditions in assigned areas and make judgements related to safety.
Ability to stay actively engaged and assist with cuing of swimming skills
Knowledge and strong understanding of basic swim and stroke skills with the ability to provide coaching feedback to participants while ensuring proper class management tactics.
Knowledge and understanding to observe participant behavior and monitor exertion levels.
Skills in tactful and effective communication.
Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
One to two (1-2) years swim instruction experience
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or equivalent swim instruction certification.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
One to two (1-2) years of experience participating in or coaching in a swimming program or related experience.
Previous experience working with children and or teens.
