  • Appear at court hearings weekly and/or provide testimony and documentation to the juvenile courts in order to update the courts on probation status of high-risk juvenile offenders.
  • Provides coordination for determinate sentenced probationers who must appear before the court prior to their 19th birthday.
  • Supervises high-risk offenders who are being released from secure placement to assist with reintegration.
  • Supervises juveniles that are court ordered into the CORE Program
  • Supervises juveniles that are participating in the EmpowerED Program.
  • Prepares for monthly court proceedings and ensuring all parties are present for hearings.
  • Coordinate and supervise monthly Life Skills Developmental Activities for juveniles in the CORE and EmpowerED Programs.
  • Detains youth by seeking proper permission from the court (custody order) to ensure public safety by detaining high-risk offenders if conditions warrant.
  • Coordinates electronic monitoring services and supervises offenders with ankle monitors.
  • Coordinates counseling services for offenders to ensure court ordered counseling is being conducted and to verify progress.
  • Contacts juveniles and their families with a minimum of two face-to-face contacts per week for high-risk offenders that includes office visits, school visits, and/or home visits; one phone contact per week.
  • Writes reports (social history, violation reports, case reviews, and detention reports) and documents the case files of high-risk offenders in order to prove an accurate account for the juvenile’s case and to substantiate detentions, revocations and other probation condition changes.
  • Attendance and participation on the CAC (Child Advocacy Center) Advisory Council and the Fort Bend Anti-Trafficking Collective.
  • Certified in Not a Number/LOVE 146 and teach the curriculum to youth and their families (certification can be obtained after employment).
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or other state approved related field. Knowledge of adult justice system and criminal justice system preferred.
  • Two years of experience in the field of juvenile justice. Use of electronic monitoring system and computer software preferred.
  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Good computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and JCMS Software.
  • Good verbal and written skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Eligible to be Certified as a Juvenile Probation Officer.
  • May require being on call 24 hours a day and subject to irregular work hours.

STARTING SALARY: $39.59 hourly

This position may be eligible for additional compensation based upon state supplement and certification pay.

An applicant may not have any of the following disqualifying criminal history:


1)A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole.


2)A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole.


3)Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
