Job Summary

Under the guidance and supervision of a Residence Director (RD), the Assistant Residence Director (ARD) plays a vital leadership role within the Office of Residence Life. The ARD is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of a residential community, including the supervision and development of a team of Resident Assistants (RAs), supporting a diverse population of students living in Endicott housing, and serving as a conduct hearing officer. This position also participates in an on-call duty rotation, providing crisis response and support for residential students.

The ARD is a live-in, full-time, 10-month professional staff position designed for individuals pursuing a Master's degree. The role provides an opportunity for hands-on experience in student affairs and higher education administration while contributing to a supportive, engaging, and inclusive campus community. This position is offered as a three-year term.

This live-in role requires the Residence Director (RD) to maintain their primary residence in the

assigned on-campus housing as a condition of employment. Housing must be vacated

immediately upon separation from the College, regardless of the reason for termination.

Key Outcomes

50%:  Residential Community & Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision, training, and performance evaluations for a team of Resident Assistants (RAs)

  • Implement residential education initiatives, including RA-led engagement programming, departmental signature events, and cross-departmental collaborations

  • Support departmental initiatives that foster student engagement, inclusion, and community building in the residential experience

  • Oversee the occupancy management of assigned residential areas, including coordination of check-ins/check-outs, room changes, building and room condition reports (BCRs/RCRs), roommate agreements, safety inspections, and damage billing

  • Assist with broader Residence Life operations such as housing selection, break closings, and summer transition planning

30%:  Student Conduct and On-Call

  • Participate in the on-call duty rotation, providing crisis response for psychological, medical, Title IX, and facilities-related emergencies, and following established College protocols

  • Serve as a conduct hearing officer to address student behavioral concerns and policy violations in accordance with the Office of Community Standards

  • Facilitate conflict resolution and follow-up with students involved in conduct-related matter

20%:  Departmental Initiatives Support

  • Lead and support departmental programming efforts through RA engagement initiatives, signature events, and collaborative programs with other campus offices

  • Promote initiatives that align with the College’s goals around student learning, belonging, and development in the residential setting

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required and preference of candidates who are pursuing a Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field.

  • Previous experience in Residence Life and/or Student Affairs highly recommended.

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.  

  • Ability to represent Office of Residence Life, and Endicott College in a professional demeanor in person, on the phone and in written correspondences.  

  • Must be energetic and detail oriented with excellent management and organizational skills

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Professional and pleasant manner with outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills is essential

In compliance with Massachusetts pay transparency law, the annual base salary range for this position is $33,000–$38,000. Endicott College considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, relevant work experience, education, specialized skills, internal equity, and external market data when extending an offer. The final salary is determined by the Human Resources Office based on these factors. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or other compensation.
