Overview

Schedules, coordinates and monitors the day to day operational functions of the Hematology Department.The Hematology Department includes Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis.. Implements quality standardsand provides oversight of section processes to achieve excellent outcome and quality patient care. Performs Laboratory testing on patient and control samples, and/or prepares blood components for transfusion. Maintains a workingknowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. This knowledge includes clinical correlation oftest results,quality control requirements, and preventative maintenance. Maintains department readiness for regulatory inspectionsand compliance requirements. Maintains department policy and procedure manuals in accordance with hospital policy. Isresponsible for department quality control records, instrument maintenance, regulatory agency compliance, and supplyprocess. Participates inthe continuous quality improvement process through professional development, continuingeducation, data collection and evaluation, and quality assurance. Develops and maintains orientation, training andcompetency tools and ensures compliance. Assists the Manager in evaluating and documenting employee performance.Assists Manager inthe recruitment, hiring, termination and retention of employees. Coordinates staff developmentactivities of section including education, competency completion, validation, and orientation. Participates indatacollection and analysis as requested by management. Maximizes efficiency in section operations. Exhibits willingness toresolve problems as they arise. Knows FDA, CLIA, and CAP requirements.This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of AHMC Anaheim RegionalMedical Center and AHMC Inc. Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCEEarned a doctoral or bachelor's degree ina chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medicaltechnology from an accredited institution.Four years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist inan acute care laboratory with minimum 6 months Hematology experience preferred. One year supervisory experience preferred.LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONSCurrent State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License• American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registration preferred
