Position Description
As a member of the Liquidity Investment Funding Controller (LIFC) Team, this individual will manage the controller function which administers the Firm?s technical accounting programs, including Hedge Accounting, Available for Sale and Held to Maturity, and support new business growth. The candidate will have regular and direct interactions with Corporate Treasury, Financial Control Group, Accounting Policy, Technology, Operations, Market Risk, and other groups within the Firm.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage, review and analyze the daily, weekly and monthly profit and loss of the hedge accounting portfolios, including compliance related items and attribution, to ensure key drivers are in line with expectations.
- Requires specialized knowledge in Cashflow Hedge Accounting, Available for Sale and Held to Maturity accounting.
- Manage the month-end close reconciliations and processes, escalating and resolving issues with senior management (inclusive of balance sheet substantiation).
- Assist in the preparation of related 10Q/10K disclosures and quarterly management reporting.
- Partner with Accounting Policy issues with respect to ASC815 matters.
- Initiate process reengineering, improve efficiency, and work to improve IT systems.
- Ad hoc projects will be assigned and involve advising with Corporate Treasury, Corporate Risk Management, IT, etc. (e.g., new systems functionality testing, improving attribution).
- Manage a deployed team.
Qualifications
- Previous management experience preferred.
- Capital Markets product controls experience preferred.
- ASC815 Hedge Accounting experience required.
- +7 years experience in relevant fields.
- Demonstrable leadership qualities with a strong work ethic and team player mentality.
- A strong controls background with the ability to design new controls and to challenge the operating effectiveness of existing controls.
- Willingness to take initiative to develop and improve processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Adept at working in a fast-paced, high-energy level environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong analytical skills.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $120,000 and $205,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is
only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
