Job Description

The Financial Counselor produces schedules of patient responsibility, goes over medical insurance benefits, and informs patients of the cost they will be expected to pay at the time of each service. The ideal candidate must be a quick learner and be able to thrive in a fast-paced setting.

Job Duties

  • Assists patients in obtaining financial assistance and works closely with the Patient Assistance Coordinator to provide them with any available resources. 
  • Handles questions and concerns from patients to resolve claims and payment issues.
  • Makes sure all resources available to the patient are used.
  • Identifies any claim issues and ensures that they have been communicated with the necessary billing staff.
  • Sets up payment arrangements if needed with doctor’s approval.
  • Answers incoming calls from patients, physician’s offices, and insurance companies.
  • Resolves patient-billing problems and reviews account receivable delinquencies.
  • Documents financial counseling process and discussions on all patients prior to treatment.
  • Informs the treatment team of any anticipated coverage issues that may impact the sequencing of timeliness of care.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Minimum1 year medical insurance knowledge including Medicare, Medicaid, HMO’s and PPO’s.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA guidelines a must.
  • Must be a team player with ability to collaborate interdepartmentally and with clinical staff.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications a must.
  • Excellent communication skills a must, both verbal and written.

Salary: $22 - $24, dependent on experience
