Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)

Location: 4770 Larimer Parkway, Johnstown, Colorado

Schedule: Full-Time (evenings/weekends may be required)

What You’ll Do

As a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), you will design and facilitate therapeutic recreation programs that support patients’ emotional, social, and physical well-being. You will help individuals use recreation and leisure activities to build coping skills, reduce stress, and improve quality of life throughout their recovery journey.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assessing patients’ needs, interests, and abilities to develop individualized recreation treatment plans.
• Planning and leading group and individual therapeutic recreation activities, such as art, music, exercise, games, outdoor experiences, and community reintegration outings.
• Using recreation interventions to support treatment goals, including stress management, social skills development, and relapse prevention.
• Collaborating with physicians, therapists, nurses, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure integrated, patient-centered care.
• Documenting progress and outcomes in accordance with state, federal, and facility standards.
• Supporting discharge planning by providing patients with recreation-based strategies for ongoing recovery and wellness.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation Therapy required.
• Current certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by NCTRC.
• Previous experience in behavioral health, substance use, or inpatient treatment setting preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, creative, and motivational skills.
• Ability to adapt activities to meet diverse patient needs.
• Must be 21 years or older.
