The mission of the Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) is to foster the expansion of the scale, quality, and impact of scholarly endeavors at UT Austin. We are committed to building capacity, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and lowering the barriers and burden involved in scientific and creative inquiry through the development of an investigator-focused infrastructure that supports the needs of UT Austin's research enterprise.

Purpose

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Creative Endeavors (OVPR) Research Development (RD) is searching for a work study student associate to work with key members of the RD staff assisting with a variety of administrative and general office tasks and projects. Projects may include assistance with events, data analysis, and/or communications requests. 

Responsibilities

  • Support general front desk and office operations tasks by offering an elevated level of customer service and hospitality to visitors and staff. 

  • Assist with on-campus event planning, logistics and meeting coordination including material prep and room set/reset. 

  • Office mail distribution/delivery and shipping requests as appropriate. 

  • Assist with inventory and office supplies maintenance. 

  • Assist with preparing content for newsletters. 

  • Able to collect, manage, and analyze data using Excel. 

  • Strong, independent, and collaborative work ethic.

  • Implement good decision-making and seek assistance as needed. 

  • Punctual and able to communicate changes to work schedule in advance. 

  • Communicate and build relationships with RD staff. 

  • Other tasks as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to express thoughts clearly and ask questions. 

  • Experience using computer and office equipment in a general office customer service setting. 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and UT applications. 

  • Organization and problem-solving skills with exceptional multi-tasking; ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines for successful completion of work. 

  • Strong, independent, and collaborative work ethic.

  • Solid understanding of different social media. 

  • Current undergraduate at UT Austin enrolled/registered for the current semester, and in good academic standing.

  • Financial aid work-study recipient.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Excel and Word.

  • Previous customer service experience or administrative support.

Salary Range

$15.00 Hourly

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Use of manual dexterity

  • Climbing of stairs

  • Lifting and moving (up to 25 lbs.) 

Work Shift

  • Must be available to work 15-19 hours per week.

  • Flexible work hours between Monday through Friday 8am-5pm, based on students' class schedule.
