General Notes
For spring 2026, the College of Fine Arts is looking for a reliable, motivated, and self-directed student employee to provide support to Landmarks, the public art program for The University of Texas at Austin. Landmarks makes great art free and accessible to all with nearly 50 works of modern and contemporary art spread across UT’s campus.

Purpose

The Skyspace attendant will serve as a visitor attendant for one of these works, The Color Inside by James Turrell, at the William C Powers Student Activity Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Staff the rooftop kiosk adjacent to the Skyspace.

  • Check people in who have made online reservations to visit the Skyspace. Accommodate visitors without a reservation by having them wait in a standby line. Encourage visitors without a reservation to sign up for mailing list.

  • Setup/take down the Skyspace check-in area.

  • Introduce the sequence with a brief overview of the space, the artist, and sequence and answer general questions about the Skyspace and Landmarks.

  • Record and report number of visitors to the Skyspace as well as conservation and maintenance needs.

  • Encourage donations to provide for the upkeep of the Skyspace.

  • Maintain crowd control practices and capacity limits in the space.

  • Maintain accurate timesheet and submit every 2 weeks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a University of Texas at Austin student, enrolled for at least 6 credit hours.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Optional: Work-Study award for the semester.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in art and/or architecture. 

  • Experience in customer service. 

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. 

  • Professional demeanor.

Hourly Rate:

  • $11/hr.

Working Conditions:

  • Must wear identification badge (provided). 

  • The Skypace attendant will work independently on the rooftop deck of the WCP which is exposed to seasonal weather conditions. The Skyspace is a semi-enclosed space with up to 25 visitors per night.  

  • The Skyspace attendant will need to enter the space to convey guidelines, respond to questions, and connect with visitors.

Schedule Work Shift:

  • (3 hour shifts) 6-9 hours variable; Maximum 10 hours per week

  • Position ends on 5/11/2026

  • Must be available to consistently work evenings and weekends. 

  • Rehire eligible based on performance.
