Job Details:

Purpose

The Graduate Assistant will provide support to the Bridging Disciplines Programs (BDP) office. The BDPs support students in becoming versatile thinkers who are able to bring the perspectives, tools, and skills of multiples disciplines to bear on complex issues and questions. The programs are designed to teach students disciplinary and interdisciplinary awareness, integrative thinking and hands-on application of knowledge and skills, and individual reflection and self-assessment. Students who successfully complete the program requirements earn a certificate upon graduation.

Responsibilities

The Graduate Assistant will assist the Bridging Disciplines Programs with the following projects and tasks:

  • Provide written and verbal feedback on student essays
  • Score student essays using a rubric
  • Deliver information sessions for prospective students
  • Assist with outreach and recruitment
  • Assist in preparing surveys and in organizing data
  • Assist with updates and edits to the BDP website
  • Other projects, as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a related graduate degree (examples of related graduate degrees include, but are not limited to, Educational Psychology, Government, Higher Education Administration, Public Affairs, and Social Work)
  • Experience working with students in an academic environment
  • Experience reviewing and providing feedback on student writing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with student records and information
  • Some knowledge of academic advising, counseling skills, and/or student development theory preferred
  • Interest in experiential and/or interdisciplinary learning preferred
  • Meet enrollment requirements as a UT student in good standing (Summer: must be enrolled for at least one three-hour course during any summer session; Fall and Spring: must be enrolled for at least nine semester hours of coursework)

Salary Range

  • $20.00 per hour

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Occasional evening and weekend commitments
  • This position is based in Austin, TX and is required to work on campus

Work Shift

  • 20 hours per week, to be scheduled during standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm).

  • Hybrid work schedule is permitted, with some hours in the BDP office and some hours completed remotely.

  • Occasional evening hours may be needed for recruitment activities (information sessions or tabling at events).
