The Graduate Assistant will support the Office of Career Life & Design. Selection made by committee and hiring supervisor based on review of on-line applications and results of personal interviews. Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing security background check. Work schedule will be determined by discussion with supervisor. This position will end May 15, 2026, with a possibility of extension. Preference will be given to applicants who are able to commit long-term. The person that accepts this position will need to be available during the working office hours of the Office of Campus Life & Design.
Purpose
The Global Impact Graduate Consultant (GIGC) will work closely with the Assistant Director for Professional Development and the Office of Career and Life Design Team to support programming and resource development for international graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, focusing on topics such as professional development, networking, community building, and navigating US and international job markets. The ideal candidate will be passionate about serving the international degree community, demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for the Office of Career and Life Design Team’s programs and initiatives, promoting them to peers, departments, and the broader campus community.
Responsibilities
Oversee monthly Coffee & Connections Hours from planning to execution (full-cycle coordination), and other community-building events for the international advanced degree community
Support OCLD on-site events, including career education workshops and other related programs
Program, organize, and support biannual International Job Search Summit
Program and lead working groups for international graduate students and postdocs (e.g., global job search working groups, peer support professional development sessions)
Maintain the Global Grad Careers monthly listserv and newsletter (resource curation, formatting, scheduling)
Conduct needs assessment for international advanced degree community and translate the findings into programming and resources to meet those needs; coordinate and create content, resources, and programs on advanced degree career exploration and professional development for international graduate student and scholar communities
Engage with campus partners and stakeholders, including Texas Global, academic departments, and student groups, to coordinate programming and promote initiatives supporting the international advanced degree community
Conduct outreach and build relationships within the international student community to ensure events, programs, and resources meet their needs and increase participation
Optional Responsibilities (Additional 5 hours/week, available only for candidates with analytics skills)
For candidates with data analytics capabilities, additional responsibilities may include: Conduct email marketing data analytics to identify highly engaged vs. under-engaged student groups and recommending strategies to improve outreach effectiveness. Note that applicants without analytics skills are fully welcome and will be given full consideration. The additional 5 hours are only available to candidates who already have the analytics skills listed below.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; able to collaborate with a range of stakeholders.
Lived or professional experience with international student/scholar populations; interest in learning about and serving the international advanced degree community.
Able to work independently and meet deadlines.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Attention to detail in editing, reviewing, and organizing materials.
Knowledge of trends and practice with international student/scholar populations.
Skills or experience in event planning, coordination, and logistics.
Interest in learning more about career development, professional development, and life design.
Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. This includes students on F-1 or J-1 visas, who are eligible for on-campus employment.
Proficiency with R, Python, or Tableau (any of the three)
Experience with data cleaning, exploratory data analysis, descriptive statistics.
Ability to conduct email marketing engagement analytics, including segmentation, trend analysis, and basic quantitative modeling (e.g., regression, correlation, clustering).
$20 per hour-10 hours per week; possible additional 5 hours for candidate with analytics skills
Use of manual dexterity.
May work around standard office conditions.
Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation.
To be determined through conversation with supervisor.
