JOB PURPOSE:

Student Circulation Assistants are often the first staff our users encounter when visiting Watzek Library. We rely on this position to offer outstanding service to Lewis & Clark students, staff, faculty, and visitors.

Employees in this position will gain the following skills:

  • Providing courteous and attentive service

  • Demonstrating initiative and a professional work ethic

  • Working as part of a large team to achieve departmental goals

  • Communicating effectively with a diverse group of customers, co-workers, and supervisors

  • Familiarity with library organizational systems and research skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Checking library materials in and out

  • Providing library information and basic research assistance in person, by phone, and by chat

  • Referring complex questions to library staff and other campus resources

  • Helping patrons use a variety of equipment including computers, printers, and scanners

  • Sorting and shelving library materials

  • Assisting staff with wide variety of other circulation functions and projects

  • Ability to honor and work with all identities and individuals, particularly those who are underrepresented in the country and/or at Lewis & Clark College

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain commitment throughout the academic year

  • Great attention to detail

  • Experience providing outstanding customer service

  • Willing to work weekends and evenings

SCHEDULE:

  • Schedule will vary depending on the applicant's availability. During the academic year, the service desk is staffed Monday-Thursday 8AM to midnight, Friday 8AM to 7PM, Saturday 11AM to 7PM, and Sunday 9AM to midnight. All staff are required to work at least one weekend or late night shift per week. Most students work 8-12 hours per week. Most shifts are 2-3 hours in length.

RATE OF PAY:

  • Starting pay is $16.30 per hour.

WORK STUDY REQUIREMENT:

  • Federal or L&C Work Study required

    Eligibility to Work
