Summary
The Biomedical Equipment Technician is a highly technical position that serves our patients through creative, high quality, biomedical equipment support and technical assistance for clinical associates in a professional, timely and cost effective manner. Has a high level of specialized technical ability in problem solving, use of test equipment and service documentation to maintain a wide variety of equipment types used for patient diagnostics and treatment, clinical laboratory, radiology, surgery and other medical and support departments. Demonstrates mastery of biomedical skills related to installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of medical equipment.Job Description
Performs safety inspections, calibration and preventive maintenance on medical equipment as scheduled (specialty or focus areas may be required). Conducts corrective maintenance, modification, updating, and repair on all types of medical equipment on a by-request basis. Performs medical equipment and technology evaluations and assessments including pre-purchase and trial equipment evaluations. Collaborates in work groups to prepare, coordinate and present formal and informal training programs related to equipment theory, safety, operation, inspection and repair as scheduled or required. Travels for manufacturer or third party service training when required on an ongoing basis to maintain satisfactory competence and performance. Documents all activities and occurrences related to medical equipment management programs as required by Biomedical Electronics policies and procedures. Assists in maintaining records, producing reports and analyzing data as required. Provide onsite/remote service on specialty trained devices. Takes on tasks related to new equipment projects, such as, new builds, remodels, and acquisition of new properties to ensure work is completed in a timely manner. Cross trains peers relating to medical equipment maintenance and repairs to maintain well trained knowledgeable staff. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions. Maintains knowledge of new technical skills, techniques, instrumentation and advances in related areas. Works independently with little to no supervision.Qualifications
For all Levels - Associates degree required in Biomedical Engineering, Equipment Technology, Electronics or related field.
For Associate Level - Biomedical Engineering/Equipment Technology internship or equivalent internship experience. Ability to work independently and as team member with other staff with minimal supervision and under high stress situations.
For Intermediate Level - Three years of experience working as Biomedical Equipment Technician. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) trained (or equivalent) and actively maintaining a minimum of three biomedical modalities such as, Ventilators, Lasers, Anesthesia Machines, Telemetry, and other fields as defined. Ability to work independently and as team member with other staff with minimal supervision and under high stress situations.
For Senior Level - Five years of experience working as Biomedical Equipment Technician or equivalent. Six years of experience working as Biomedical Equipment Technician or equivalent. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) trained (or equivalent) and actively maintaining a minimum of five biomedical modalities such as, Ventilators, Lasers, Anesthesia Machines, Telemetry, and other fields as defined. Ability to work independently and as team member with other staff with minimal supervision and under high stress situations. Proficient with MS excel and other MS office products.
For all Levels - Valid Driver’s License required. Must maintain a good driving record. AAMI Credentials Institute (AMI), Certified Biomedical Electronics Technician (CBET), Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES), or Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES) certification preferred.
