We are searching for the best talent for a Manager, Laboratory Strategies & Planning to be in La Jolla, CA.
 

Purpose:
Reporting to the Global Director of Laboratory Strategies and Planning, the Manager is responsible for engineering and facilities guidance for optimization of internal vivarium and in vitro laboratory infrastructure in alignment with Preclinical Sciences & Translational Safety (PSTS) business strategy and initiatives. 

You will be responsible for:

• Internal vivarium and PSTS in vitro laboratory infrastructure strategic & capacity planning in compliance with applicable regulations and institutional standards
• Utilize project management skills to identify and manage resource requirements, define project deliverables, identify and mitigate risks, measure outcomes and ensure adherence to budget
• Strongly collaborate with stakeholders; including (internal) business partners (PSTS scientific functions, S&O), E&PS functions (facilities management, project delivery, lab services, space management), Finance, EH&S, IT, Procurement, & Therapeutics Discovery Lab Ops and (external) Avantor, CBRE, JLL and construction management firms to assess as needed, project status, budget, schedules, etc.
• Ability to identify the need for escalation in a prompt manner to enable the function/business to deliver on commitments
• Assists in Capital planning & execution liaison with E&PS PD, Lab Ops for internal PSTS projects
• Review and approval of PSTS related facility project design and commissioning documentation
• Be on call participant for vivarium and laboratory infrastructure and critical equipment alarm notification and response

Qualifications / Requirements:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or related subject areas is required
• Master’s degree in management, project management, animal sciences, or related subject areas and/or other advanced degrees is preferred
   

Required:

• Minimum 6 years of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academia, or laboratory operations related experience in drug development 
• Excellent organization skills, including scheduling, timely follow-up, and attention to detail
• Knowledge of process and product improvement methodologies 
• Experience participating in and/or leading complex workstreams
• Outstanding diplomacy and negotiating skills
• Must be able to work with external regulatory agencies and accreditation groups
• Working knowledge of applicable FDA, GLPs, GMPs, applicable animal welfare guidelines, and AAALAC requirements
• Must perform all work per appropriate safety standards
• Stay ahead of current trends and practices in field of expertise by completing required continuing education
• Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment required to perform work tasks
• Applicable vaccinations may be required for entry and work within specific laboratory and vivarium spaces.
• Support a Culture of Care that exemplifies the highest standards in laboratory animal welfare
• Up to 10% travel and “off-core business hours” meeting participation as needed
• Essential Personnel Statement: This is an essential personnel role. Essential Personnel are defined as the staff who are required to report to their designated work location, to ensure the operation of essential functions or departments during an emergency, as determined by J&J, or when the business has suspended operations. There are some individuals who may be required to perform essential services remotely and those individuals will be identified in advance and notified by their supervisors, but in most cases Essential Personnel are required to be on-site during an emergency or suspension of operations.  

Preferred:

• Proven ability to work with large, complex, international teams
• Relevant In Vivo or In Vitro laboratory and/or Facilities Management/Engineering experience

 

The anticipated base pay range for this position in the US is $117,000 to $201,000.

 

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs.  Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.  The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year.  Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
