Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Director, Business Development (Licensing, Mergers and Acquisitions) to join our MedTech Surgery business located at our Cincinnati, OH site with alternate locations of Santa Clara, CA or Raritan, NJ sites.

Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery develops, manufactures and commercializes a broad range of innovative products and solutions used primarily by health care professionals in key surgical platforms such as Robotic and Digital Surgery, Wound Closure, Open and Minimally Invasive Stapling / Energy Instruments, Biosurgery, Aesthetics & Reconstruction, and Polyphonic (our digital platform). As the most comprehensive devices business in the world, Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery is best suited to serve evolving customer needs, train more surgeons to improve standards of care, and treat more patients globally as access expands.

Summary:

Recommends and executes strategies to identify, assess, and pursue business opportunities in strategic areas of interest. Lay the groundwork and entry strategies, scans and scout for potential new business opportunities based on unmet customer and market needs. Progresses business cases by including research and analysis to assess ideas and opportunities. Orally presents business opportunities to leadership. Participates in the negotiation, structuring, and closing of deals.

Responsibilities:

-Recommends and executes the right strategies that support the MedTech Surgery.

  • Develops strategy recommendations that are clear and aligned with Surgery strategy.
  • Provides recommendations regarding potential technological and growth gaps for the business.
  • Collaborates with business leaders and other functions to assess new opportunities.
  • Leads teams and ensures teams are following the appropriate guidelines.

-Scans and scouts for opportunities using insights of unmet needs.

  • Gathers and communicates intelligence by reading published literature and patents and press releases, attending conferences and trade shows, networking, and seeking other sources of intelligence.

-Develops and utilizes screening criteria, models, and tools to assess opportunities.

  • Identifies and articulates critical assumptions, risks, and opportunities.

-Develops business case for opportunities.

  • Coordinates marketplace analysis and assessment using financial and forecasting models.
  • Utilizes research to analyze, vet and validate ideas.
  • Establishes relationships with external targets aligned to business opportunities.
  • Coordinates the due diligence process.
  • Partners with internal business partners including R&D, Marketing and Finance.

-Delivers oral and written presentations to J&J management to communicate opportunities.

-Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external target partners.

-Participates in the due diligence, negotiation, structuring, and closing of transactions.

-Directs integration team to support integration of new businesses and assets into J&J.

-Prepares and delivers regular reports and summaries for leadership that provides status of internal business development projects and competitive M&A activity.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years of business experience or MBA/other advanced degree with at least 5 years relevant business experience is required.
  • Licensing, mergers/acquisitions, consulting or banking experience is preferred.
  • Experience in developing business cases for opportunities is required.
  • Strong business, negotiation, interpersonal, project management, analytical, decision-making, and influence leadership skills are required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and influence a broad variety of business leaders, both internally and externally and of varying levels from functional personnel to senior leaders of companies is required.
  • Experience in a customer/external facing role is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, lead several projects simultaneously are required.
  • Strong analytical and operational skills are preferred.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry is preferred.
  • This role may require up to 25% domestic and international travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$150,000.00 - $258,750.00

 

 

For Bay Area:

$172,000.00 - $297,850.00

 

 

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
