Johnson & Johnson MedTech is currently recruiting for a FPGA Engineer, R&D - MedTech. The position is located in Cincinnati & will work fully on-site (5 days per week in the office).

Purpose:

As an FPGA Engineer focused on visualization systems for surgical robotics, you will support the development of real‑time imaging and vision platforms used in next‑generation robotic surgery. You will work closely with experienced engineers across hardware, firmware, and software teams to help implement FPGA‑based solutions for video and image processing pipelines. In this role, you will contribute to RTL development, simulation, and hardware validation while learning to meet performance, latency, and timing requirements. You will gain hands‑on experience with vision processing architectures and FPGA workflows, with opportunities for mentorship and technical growth. This position offers a strong foundation for building FPGA expertise while contributing to technologies that improve patient outcomes and global healthcare.

You will be responsible for:

  • Support the design and implementation of FPGA architectures for real‑time video and image processing pipelines
  • Support development of high‑performance data paths for vision platforms and image sensor interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain FPGA designs using SystemVerilog for Xilinx Zynq MPSoC platforms under guidance from senior engineers
  • Support simulation and hardware‑based verification to validate FPGA functionality and performance.
  • Support cross‑functional system integration and testing with firmware and software teams.
  • Participate in testing, debugging, and release activities for FPGA designs across prototype and production systems.
  • Contribute to documentation, including design specifications, architecture descriptions, and test results

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 4+ years of relevant industry experience is required.
  • 4+ years of hands‑on experience in FPGA design and embedded systems is required; medical industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with image sensors, video/image processing, and image acquisition systems is required.
  • Solid proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL design is required.
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGA architecture, including use of Vivado and/or Vitis and implementation of design constraints is required
  • Experience developing and debugging designs on Xilinx Zynq or Zynq UltraScale+ platforms
  • Familiarity with common communication and memory interfaces such as SPI, I2C, AXI4 and DDRx is required
  • Experience developing functional simulations to verify FPGA designs using tools such as QuestaSim or equivalent is required.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and familiarity with CI/CD workflows in a collaborative development environment is required.
  • Demonstrates a strong desire for continuous learning and professional growth

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$92,000.00 - $148,350.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
