Job Responsibilities:

Primary research (75%)

  • The responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments in the laboratory, coordinating and working with core facilities for mass spectrometry, NMR, and microscopy.

Data dissemination (15%)

  • The responsibilities include and data analysis, organization, presentation during group meetings and departmental, college and university organizations as appropriate, writing, revising, and submitting manuscripts for publication, preparing and presenting results at national and international conferences.

Mentoring (5%)

  • The responsibilities include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory. Undergraduates assigned to the postdoctoral research will conduct thesis work primarily under the mentorship of the postdoc. Graduate students will interact with and learn from the postdoctoral research associate in a open and supportive research environment.

(5%)-Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • PhD in Bacterial Genetics and Biochemistry or related field.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Bacterial genetics for multiple species of organism.
  • Light and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Mass spectrometry data acquisition and analysis.
  • NMR data acquisition and analysis.

 

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good communication and computer skills.
  • Open approach to defining a problem and designing a strategy for solving it.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bacterial gene expression and genetic analysis.
  • Small molecule isolation using chromatography.
  • Genome and transcriptome analysis.
