PURPOSE

This position is responsible for providing lab support services for laboratory courses in Chemistry.

DESCRIPTION

Functional Area 1: Operations

Percent Effort: 50 %

Job Duties

  • Orders supplies and reagents for the teaching laboratories

  • Ensure all the solutions are prepared, instruments are in proper working order, and supplies are available for weekly experiments.

  • Composes standard operating procedures for all chemistry teaching laboratory equipment and instruments for safe use and operation.

Functional Area 2: Support

Percent Effort: 30%

Job Duties

  • Overseas chemical and biochemical waste disposal.

  • Ensures that all the supplies and equipment are in working order and available for all chemistry teaching labs

  • Performs minor repairs and calibrations on instruments, and contacts appropriate companies for major repairs.

Functional Area 3: Other

Percent Effort: 20%

Job Duties

  • Resolves lab-related student issues.

  • Scheduling labs and assignment of TAs and Adjuncts to instruct labs.

  • Monitors compliance of safety practices and completion of safety training by students in all labs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or closely related field.

  • One (1) year of related experience

  • Additional experience may be used as a substitute for the minimum requirement:

    • High School diploma and five (5) years of related experience, OR

    • Associate degree and three (3) years of related experience.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Ability to identify, assess, and solve problems.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

  • Ability to lift light objects. Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in chemistry

SALARY: $21.63 Hourly ($44,990.40 Annual, Approximately)
