JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Area Director of Engineering provides strategic leadership and technical expertise across the BHC portfolio including hotels, restaurants, parks, the club, and the theater. This role ensures every property operates at the highest standards of performance, safety, and presentation, supporting an exceptional guest and member experience. The ideal candidate combines operational mastery with an elevated understanding of hospitality environments and asset preservation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and inspire engineering and facilities teams across all BHC properties, ensuring excellence in maintenance, service delivery, and technical execution.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance and energy management programs that uphold BHC’s standards for quality, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Partner with property General Managers and Directors to align engineering initiatives with each property’s operational goals and guest experience objectives.
  • Oversee capital planning, budgeting, and project execution for renovations and improvements, ensuring work reflects BHC’s brand aesthetic and long-term asset strategy.
  • Establish and maintain consistent engineering protocols, safety programs, and reporting systems across all properties.
  • Collaborate closely with Design & Construction, Operations, and Finance teams to plan and prioritize infrastructure investments.
  • Monitor utilities and sustainability performance, driving innovation in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
  • Serve as the portfolio’s technical authority and resource for emergency response, system troubleshooting, and complex mechanical or structural issues.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, precision, and pride within all engineering teams, emphasizing both technical excellence and guest impact.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, luxury design standards, and regulatory developments that influence hospitality engineering operations.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering leadership experience within multi-property hospitality, luxury resorts and complex multi-site operations
  • Deep expertise in facilities management, HVAC, landscaping, electrical, plumbing, and fire, and life safety systems.
  • Proven success managing large teams and capital projects across varied property types.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to balance operational priorities and aesthetic considerations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative leadership style and guest-oriented mindset.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining long-term capital programs
