Overview:  

FMC has an immediate opening in the Discovery Chemistry Group for a motivated Associate Chemist at Stine Research Center in Newark, DE.  The Discovery Chemistry organization employs synthetic organic chemists to design and synthesize new high-performance crop protection molecules that may lead to new commercial products.  We are seeking applicants with expertise in synthetic organic chemistry. Candidates will have a strong background in laboratory-based work with a solid knowledge of separation techniques and spectroscopic identification approaches. The successful candidate will work independently and under the supervision of a Principal Investigator on projects related to the discovery, optimization, and characterization of safe and sustainable new technologies for global agriculture. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry
  • Exceptional laboratory skills including expertise in modern separation methods (e.g. MPLC, HPLC) and characterization techniques (e.g. NMR, MS/MS, LC/MS, GC/MS & IR) for the synthesis of complex targets
  • Ability to carry out multi-step synthetic sequences to deliver analytically pure material for biological testing
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work in teams of scientists, including working closely with a Principal Investigator

Required Education

  • BS or MS in Chemistry or related field with a strong background in organic synthesis is required. Further industrial work experience is desirable
